Manali-Shimla - part 2

Saturday 7 September

Another relatively short day, road mostly very rough tarmac or dirt, but late in the day is a thousand metre climb on rough dirt, so not necessarily an easy day.

single lane one vehicle at-a-time bridge with older footbridge in foreground
animal tracks criss-cross the steep hill above the river

many of the streams wash out the road surface leaving river rock and holes of various
depths for the unsuspecting cyclist to navigate and hopefully only get the feet wet.
Tonight's destination the village of Nako...
This is a small village, so we're housed in three different establishments. Saturday night and there is a wedding which somehow or other involves the whole village. This is part of the procession to the wedding tent...
...with lots of colourful onlookers...

...the bride...
...and ladies with lots of rice to throw...
We wandered a bit through the old part of the village, accessible only by foot through a maze of tiny paths. Three cows in the pen in front of this house.

Our accommodation tonight a tent...
...which is remarkably comfortable inside...
...and even has an 'en-suite' under cover behind the main tent compartment.
We slept well that night despite the wedding music continuing essentially all night.

Three more riding days to Shimla and the distances will be over 100 km each day
